On July 19, 2018, there was a shooting in a Circle A parking lot in Pinellas County, Florida that resulted in a man being killed with a single shot to his chest.
It really is a tragedy for all involved and was over a stupid dispute over a handicap parking space… A young man named Michael Drejka for some reason felt it was his responsibility to confront those using the space with no handicap parking permit displayed and he was known to be very aggressive with people who were depriving the handicap of said parking space.
On July 19th a couple stopped at the Circle A to pick up some snacks for their children who were with them. The mother was a nurse who just had just finished a long shift at work so she remained in the vehicle to get a brief moment of rest while her man went into the Circle A.
Almost as soon as her man walked into the store, Michael Drejka’s walked out and assumed his unofficial role as the keeper of the handicap parking spot. He is said to have looked the vehicle over real good even walking around the car to make sure there was no handicap parking permit, then he proceeded to read Britany Jacobs, the nurse who just got off work trying to get a minutes rest, the riot act.
Mr. Drejka got so loud and animated he got pretty much everyone’s attention that was in the vicinity of the car… Including Ms. Jacobs man, Markeis McGlockton, who rushed out as Mr. Drejka was closing in on his wife. As Mr. McGlockton came around the vehicle he shoved Mr. Drejka back knocking him off his feet onto the pavement.
Well, the incident has created the kind of controversy that Al Sharpton felt he needed to get involved in… The Sheriff of Pinellas County has refused to arrest and charge Mr. Drejka because of the Florida Stand Your Ground Law that rightfully, in my opinion, does not require you to make an effort to retreat before defending yourself. The key point in justifying a person shooting someone is that they fear for their life… Not if you or anyone else think he should not have been afraid, it’s all about what the person defending themselves think and Mr. Drejka claims he feared for his life.
Even though I am sure Al Sharpton is upset because the shooter was not white, this was a black on black shooting, not that it makes a difference to most of the world, but it usually is all that matters with Al Sharpton.
When Al Sharpton entered the community he held a meeting at a local church to fire up the people and organize demonstrations no doubt.
During his rally at the Church Al Sharpton demanded… Yeah, demanded, funny I know… That The Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri either lock Mr. Drejka up or turn in his badge! Nevermind the law, never mind giving him a fair trial or investigating… Lock him up! Can you believe he is also part of the crowd wanting criminal justice reform?
Not long after Al Sharpton made his “demand” the Sheriff was being interviewed and he was asked what he thought about the comments by Al Sharpton… He responded by telling them:
“I wasn’t there and don’t really care what Al Sharpton has to say… Go back to New York and mind your own business.”
I don’t know about the rest of you, but it’s good to see someone tell Al Sharpton to pound sand instead of organizing committees and trying to placate him and his traveling Mob.
Just as a side note, I am Disabled and get around on an electric scooter and it annoys me when I see people take a handicap spot, but it is NOT worth killing someone over… Heck, I have a permit but because I have a scooter I don’t even park in the handicap spot… There are some people that really have mobility problems and may not have what they need to make their mobility easier on them, so people really should leave those parking spots for those who need them… Don’t kill anyone over it though.
Mr. Drejka clearly did not need to shoot Markeis McGlockton… As you will see in the video he was stopped and even backed up slightly when Mr. Drejka pulled his gun… What I think does not matter though… No one can get inside Mr. Drejka’s head… There is no way to know if he really feared for his life except for what he tells us and he tells us he did. I support stand your ground laws because I believe in a mans right to defend themselves and their family… I would not want someone trying to get inside my head and tell me how I felt if I found myself in a dangerous situation.
Here are the videos of the shooting and the interview of the Sheriff… Let me know your thoughts in the comment section!
