Company Dumps NASCAR Driver When They Learned What His Father Had Done 30 Years Ago

It was really an outrageous and unbelievable act by Lilly Diabetes for discontinuing the sponsorship of NASCAR driver Conor Daly due to his father’s usage of the “n-word“ over 30 years ago.

Yes, you read that right, the politically correct leftist witch-hunt has gone farther than some could have ever imagined.

From Indychanel.com:

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (AP) — Lilly Diabetes has pulled its sponsorship of Conor Daly’s No. 6 car in the NASCAR Xfinity race at Road America, citing a racially insensitive remark made by the driver’s father in the 1980s that surfaced this week.

Lilly said in a statement Friday that its sponsorship was intended to raise awareness for treatment options and resources for people living with diabetes.

“Unfortunately, the comments that surfaced this week by Derek Daly distract from this focus, so we have made the decision that Lilly Diabetes will no longer run the No. 6 at Road America this weekend,” Lilly said.

Primarily an IndyCar driver, Conor Daly is making his NASCAR debut at the rural Wisconsin road course Saturday with Roush Fenway Racing. Messages left for a team spokesman seeking comment were not immediately returned on Friday night.

Derek Daly has denied being the original source of a racial slur that led to the retirement of longtime Indianapolis Colts radio voice Bob Lamey last weekend.

Several news outlets reported that Daly was the source in a story Wednesday. It also led to the station severing its ties with Daly, a freelance racing analyst. Daly is a former CART and Formula One driver.

In a statement, Daly said he admitted to using a racial slur for African-Americans during a radio interview in the early 1980s. Daly, who had just moved to the United States then, said the term had a different meaning and connotation in his native Ireland.

Daly said he was “mortified’” when he learned how the term was used in the United States and has never used it since then. Conor Daly, 26, wasn’t born when his father made the comment.

“Finally, I want everyone to know I deeply regret and sincerely apologize for what I said more than three decades ago,” the elder Daly said in his statement.

Lilly Diabetes is still sponsoring the cars of drivers Ty Majeski and Ryan Reed at Road America.

“We remain committed to our mission of supporting people with diabetes,” Lilly said.

  1. Despicable… my father used this word 30 to 50 years ago also but that does NOT convey MY thoughts. Having to “pay” for what our ancestors did decades or centuries ago is just plain RIDICULOUS !!!

EVERYONE in this country goes back to SOMEONE of despicable character and if you can prove to me that you have a lily white and pure past… then I’ll retract this statement.

WAKE UP AMERICA … everyone has a skeleton SOMEWHERE in the closets of their history. I am a genealogist and I am speaking from fact… not fiction.

  2. Oh, good God! REALLY?? His father says something over 3 decades ago (that meant something completely different in Ireland), before this kid was born, and the company drops the sponsorship with the KID?

    Political correctness run amok…

  3. I will begin a search for a new supplier for my diabetes supplies….to think that your kids can be punished for something you did before they were born, how stupid is that!

  4. Of course it’s the New Politically Correct American Way you always punish the family for the sins of the father, L O L!

  5. Lilly Diabetes wants to act moronic. They want to make the son suffer for what the father said 30 years ago? What does his son have to do with this? Hey Lilly, if you want to call an ace an ace and a spade a spade, why doesn’t Lilly speak out against racist Oprah Winfrey, who thinks all white people need to die, in order to eradicate racism from the U.S. I would strongly suggest that all NASCAR fans that have any dealings with Lilly Diabetes, to buy there product somewhere else, hit them in the pocket book. They can be turned off economically just like the NFL.

    • There may well be some drugs on this list that you really need. Please do NOT “bite off your nose to spite your face”. Take the ones you need and maybe your Doctor can prescribe a replacement for them.

  7. What a short sided knee jerk reaction to punish a man for his father’s semantic faux pas !!! How dare they find him guilty of something he didn’t do ??? Big Pharma- Shows how stupid runs in wide circles…
