A Petition To Appoint LeBron James To An Unusual Cabinet Position Is Circulating

Oh, for Heaven’s sake. The people out there really don’t get it when it comes to the world around us, and LeBron James’s place in it. The basketball player who makes billions for his employer has been spouting his mouth off about the whole National Anthem debate and has decided to open schools that technically the taxpayers are going to finance. And someone out there has decided to start a petition for this man to replace Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education.

In light of LeBron James and Akron Public Schools’ creating the I Promise School for 240 third- and fourth-graders, thousands of folks have been inspired.

They’ve been inspired to the point at which they have put a petition together calling for current U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to be fired.

Indeed, they want James to be hired.

“LeBron James is an inspiration to kids all over the country,” the petition reads. “He’s shown he cares about America’s youth and understands the power of public education in helping children meet their true potential.”

As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, 4,240 people had signed the petition.

No one can technically stop a petition. That does not mean that such measures aren’t more wishful thinking than action plans. See, whether the left understands or not, the education system’s job is to prepare young American minds to be members of the workforce, and the way the system is set up now, that simply is not happening. DeVos and the Secretary of Labor, Alex Acosta, are talking about the possibility of merging the two cabinet departments toward that end. Education is all about learning and inspiration, but it needs to teach practical applications as well.

How does LeBron James plan to do that?

Before signing any petition requesting that this change is made, it might be worth asking Mr. James just what his goals in education are other than garnering good press and favorable headlines.

  1. Teach a man to fish and he wont go hungry agai,. . .n in this case teach a man to read and he can talk to kids !

  2. You have got to be kidding. What does James know about running a school besides nothing. What a joke. Please stick with Basketball. At least you can’t screw that up.
