In the push to completely discredit the President Donald Trump administration and all progress the good people that make up the group are doing, Democrats are appearing on television, be it during committee hearings or on programming sympathetic to their cause, and spouting all sorts of nonsense about how they are going to go about silencing various people who “obstruct” their oversight.
On Thursday, it was Adam Schiff’s turn, the wide-eyed representative from California, to invoke some sort of rule that hasn’t been used since the 1930s, apparently. He told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow all about it while he was complaining about the Trump people ignoring House Democrats’ demands for evidence so that they can impeach the president even if that evidence has to be somehow manufactured since it does not seem to exist. He’s calling it “overcoming obstructionism” as if there is a crime involved.
Here’s the part that is particularly ridiculous.
REP. ADAM SCHIFF (D-CA): You know, the remedies that we have are the same as the Judiciary Committee and the same as the Ways And Means Committee. They’re violating the statute, we can enforce it in court but that takes time.
That really doesn’t necessarily change in an impeachment proceeding where they can fight us likewise but there is another remedy that I think we really need to consider that maybe even quicker than an impeachment proceeding or the court proceeding and that is reviving Congress’ inherent power of contempt, something we utilize up until the 1930s where we in effect do our own judicial proceeding in the Congress, have a little mini-trial in the Congress and hold people in contempt and responsible and compel their production without even going to court. Now, it used to be we imprisoned people but we could also fine them $25,000 a day until they comply or some other number. That may be an even swifter remedy if we need to embark on it and we may have to.
Wait, so Schiff wants to bring back tossing the people who won’t cough up information redacted by law in jail for doing what is legal.
And the Democrats wonder why the American people really do consider them out of their minds.
