Bolton Book Leak Being Used To Advance Message That Impeachment Needs More Witnesses

On Monday, New York Times anonymous leak reporter extraordinaire, Maggie Haberman, published a breathless piece citing anonymous sources who claim to have read former Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton’s latest book, The Room Where It Happened, A White House Memoir, to be published on March 17. (Pre-ordering this book is open as of this writing.)

In this book, supposedly, Bolton claims that President Donald Trump wanted to withhold financial and other aid to Ukraine in exchange for them doing investigations internal to their government.

As has been presented by President Trump’s team at the Impeachment hearings that are droning on in the Senate, the transcripts of communications between the Trump Administration and Ukraine’s government demonstrate that this is not true. Despite this concrete account, there are renewed calls for the testimony of material witnesses at the trial currently being conducted in the Senate.

Well, there’s a problem. See, all evidence was supposed to be presented in the House hearings, not in the Senate. As more than one of the president’s lawyers explained from the well of the Senate, to call witnesses is to re-open the investigation itself.

That has not stopped the mainstream media talking heads from joining the Democrats in demanding that this demonstrates the need for more witness testimony, and from fresh faces. This is just one example.

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos said Monday during his network’s coverage of the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump that the reported revelations in former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s book were a “seismic shock.”

Stephanopoulos said, “Good afternoon, and welcome to our special coverage of the impeachment trial of President Trump. A trial that seemed to be on a steady and speedy path to certain acquittal has been hit by a seismic shock. The New York Times is reporting overnight that a draft manuscript submitted to the White House by former national security adviser John Bolton, a memoir The Room Where it Happened claims that President Trump told Bolton back in August he was conditioning aid to Ukraine on investigations into Joe Biden and other Democrats. Directly contradicting assertions by President Trump and his legal team. The story blindsided the White House and hit Capitol Hill like a thunderbolt.”

According to Bolton’s lawyer, the manuscript was sent to the National Security Council and nowhere else.

That being the case, who at the NSC saw it?
