Contract Awarded For First Stretch Of New Border Wall

We in the United States have been talking about it for decades, and now the people’s president, Donald J. Trump, the man who all but rebuilt Manhattan, is fulfilling his promise to build it.

It is the border wall, and this week the winner of the first six miles to be erected is McAllen, Texas.

Federal authorities have awarded a $145 million contract to a Texas company to build 6 miles of wall along the U.S.-Mexico border in the Rio Grande Valley.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said Friday that SLSCO will begin construction of an 18-foot reinforced concrete levee wall in February in the agency’s McAllen Station region. The company will also increase the height of existing fences.

It will be the first section of President Donald Trump’s border barriers in the Rio Grande Valley, the busiest corridor for illegal crossings.

This adds to a new and improved section in the San Diego area, also a hot spot for crossings.

It appears that the wall itself will go up in sections according to the locations with the greatest need. Originally, Trump promised a solid wall all the way across, but after consultation with the border patrol and other law enforcement agencies, the plan was amended to give those people a tool to fight against illegal border crossings.

Immigration has become a hot button topic in American politics. As of this writing, thousands of “migrants” are headed north through Mexico to the southern border. They say they will be requesting asylum, but only from the United States. Leaders in the group have already turned down Mexico’s offer of the same. For some reason, it’s the USA or bust.

The wall, or at least a barrier that can be used effectively against illegal crossings, cannot be built fast enough. With a little luck, this new section will be just the first of many.
