If the numbers are anything to go by, ABC’s daytime panel show “The View” is culturally important only in the minds of the people who are a part of it.
Now that Donald Trump, Jr., has appeared on the show, and set fire to a few reputations, and pointed out some uncomfortable truths in the pasts of the women who cluck their way through the show, well…
Minutes into his appearance on the left-leaning daytime chatfest “The View,” co-host Joy Behar rattled off a laundry list of President Trump’s mishaps and controversial moments when Trump Jr. reminded the panel that “we’ve all done things that we regret.”
The president’s oldest son, who was joined on the show by his girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle, went on the offensive, accusing “Joy Behar of once using “blackface,” and calling out Whoopi Goldberg’s past comments diminishing the seriousness of director Roman Polanski’s sexual assault of a minor. Then, when the show went to commercial, Trump Jr. took to Twitter to continue the barrage.
“We’ve all done things that we regret. Joy, you have worn blackface,” Trump Jr. said at one point during the contentious segment. “Whoopi, you said that Roman Polanski… it wasn’t ‘rape-rape,’ when he raped a child.”
Psst! Don! We’re not supposed to remember that stuff. Even if they admitted it years ago, and there’s television footage, you’re not supposed to remember that stuff.
Of course, there were all sorts of denials, and then Twitter lit up with one clip after another. ABC is being coy about whether or not they are going to invite Don Jr., back. It would be a boon for ratings, though, since the audience thought more of Don Jr.’s statements than the hens on camera.
We’ll be watching to find out what happens in the future, but in the meantime, the View feathers got singed big time today.
Life is good.
