This one is being blamed on Congress and their lack of will to do anything about the number of family units detained at the border.
This week, over 500 migrants got a Christmas gift courtesy of the people who are supposed to be representing American citizens in government. The migrants were released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement control and into the streets of Texas and New Mexico.
The release on Wednesday followed days of other mass releases by the agency in order to prevent migrant families from being detained longer than allowed. On Christmas Day, the agency released 186 migrants and another 400 were set free two days prior, Las Cruces’ KVIA-TV reported….
After a similar release Sunday, ICE blamed “decades of inaction by Congress” for limiting its ability to remove families who are in the U.S. illegally.
“To mitigate the risk of holding family units past the timeframe allotted to the government, ICE has curtailed reviews of post-release plans from families apprehended along the southwest border,” the statement read. “ICE continues to work with local and state officials and NGO partners in the area so they are prepared to provide assistance with transportation or other services.”
So, wall or not, executive order or not, Congress still owns the illegal immigration problem.
At this point, non-profit organizations along the border are helping out with the logistics of the releases, but still, hundreds of people who are not Americans have been let loose into the country without any guarantee that they will show up for future court dates or that they are healthy and not carrying communicable diseases that could well start an epidemic within the various states.
And this catch in the immigration laws belongs to Congress. They are the ones not moving on immigration even as the Trump Administration has changed rules to expedite processing and keep newly arrived migrants in Mexico before they are brought into the country.
