It can be quite a shock to people not in the funeral industry just exactly how much it costs to bury a loved one these days. All of the little things from the embalming to the casket to the burial plot to the music, etc., can add up to a hefty price tag. Many families struggle to afford the entire affair and tend to band together to help pay for it.
And that is in ordinary times. Imagine if tragedy strikes.
The families of the victims of the tragic school shootings in Santa Fe, New Mexico, do not have to worry about any of this. Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, being the good and generous guy that he is, has offered to pay funeral expenses for them.

Despite the great divide in the United States on gun ownership, mental illness and parental responsibility for the teens that carry out school shootings, the reality is that several families lost a child to an absolutely senseless shooting in school that has become the hallmark of high schools in America. J.J. Watt recognizes that these people simply may not have the means to do the sort of funeral that brings closure to those left behind. These families and the friends of the victims need that.
I'm not surprised JJ Watt's paying 4 the funerals 4 the victims of the shootings at Santa Fe High School. Ever since he got to Houston in 2011, Watt has been doing so many things in the community to help others,, including raising more than $37 million 4 Hurricane Harvey relief.

Good men can be found everywhere, even in the National Football League, a group tainted in the last two years by ungrateful players who refuse to honor the country in which they reside. J.J. Watt is obviously not one of those players. He’s one of the good guys.
Kudos to Mr. Watt. His gesture of compassion for people finding themselves faced with something no family should ever experience, will not be forgotten.
