After decades of limp spined pantywaist “leaders” in Washington, it is most refreshing to have an administration with stones.
Democrats in Congress, hell bent on finding any dirt of any variety to use to try and smear President Donald Trump and “prove” that he is a reckless, lawless fiend, requested from the Department of the Treasury – the entity that oversees the Internal Revenue Service – a number of years of the president’s tax returns for review purposes.
(Translation: we want to see them so that our “experts” can interpret what they say for the general American audience and create a narrative that, yes, indeed, the man who rebuilt Manhattan is not good at business.)
The Department of the Treasury, headed up by one of Wall Street’s bankers, Steve Mnuchin, responded this week.
The Treasury Department will not release President Trump’s tax returns to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, citing guidance from the Department of Justice, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin wrote in a letter Monday.
“In reliance on the advice of the Department of Justice, I have determined that the committee’s request lacks a legitimate legislative purpose, and pursuant to section 6103, the department is therefore not authorized to disclose the requested returns and return information,” Mnuchin wrote.
Neal, citing a statute that gives the chairman of House Ways and Means the authority to obtain any individual’s tax return, had demanded six years of Mr. Trump’s taxes, giving Mnuchin a deadline of Monday to comply. Mr. Trump’s personal attorney had suggested in a letter to Mnuchin in April that the Department of Justice should decide whether Mr. Trump’s tax returns could be disclosed to Neal.
So, essentially, Treasury is passing the decision to Justice for legal advice where the Attorney General is being henpecked by these same Democrat Congress Critters, being called a liar despite having an impeccable public reputation.
Oh, this is going to get good.
Mnuchin essentially told the nosy Rosie busybodies to go pound sand.
It’s about time.
